Volunteering - Duties & How-To

General Information

Our Club and teams wouldn't exist without all our fabulous volunteers. We value all our volunteers who come in all forms - whether you are new to footy or a die-hard fan, we need you to help our kids play week in and week out! 

There are a range of volunteer roles required for each team whether it's being a Coach, a Match Day Manager or cutting up oranges it takes a community to keep our kids playing. To get involved or to find out how you can help please email us at w.f.roostersjuniors@gmail.com

Coach

Half Time Oranges

This role involves providing yummy cut oranges for players to eat at half time.

You'll need around 10-12 oranges and each orange should be cut into six pieces.

On match day bring the cut oranges in a large sealed tub along with a rubbish bag (or a second tub) for the discarded peel.

Match Day Manager

This is a role performed at Home games.

The match day manager is required to hold a valid WWCC and provide a copy of this to the club.

The match day managers:

- Monitors crowd behaviour
- Bring any inappropriate conduct to the attention of club officials
- Be the point of contact for any queries or concerns about the venue
- At all times encourage parents and spectators to observe the code of conduct and display positive behaviour Assume a public relations role with parents and supporters
- Maintain a clear but calm presence at all time.
- Where necessary, report serious and or continued breaches of the code of conduct. This can be done through your Club President, Administrator, Junior Coordinator, who will then report to the League

Team Manager

Timekeeper & Scorer

For U9 and U10 this role involves time keeping and sounding the siren only.  In U9 and U10 no scores are kept or goals/points recorded.

For U12+ this role involves time keeping, sounding the siren and recording the score on the scorecard (printed or digital).

Trainer

A trainer provides first aid for the team and is responsible for carrying the first aid kit.  At least one registered trainer is required at every match.  Where practical a trainer should also be present at training sessions.  Visit the dedicated Trainer's Page (WRFL) for detail on how to become registered as a Junior trainer (or re-register).

Umpires (Boundary / Goal / Field)

Boundary umpires are only required in U14+.

Goal umpires are required at all ages and matches.

Field Umpires are required for all matches where a league umpire is not provided.  The league normally only provide umpires for U16+.  The club/team should have a volunteer available to field umpire each week.

Water Carrier

For U9 & U10 this involves encouraging players to put their water bottles into the crate, and carrying it to and from the huddle at quarter and half times and encourage the kids to have a drink.  At the end of hte game remind the kids to take their water and then put the crate back into the team kit bag.

For U12+ this role involves running team bottles onto the field to keep the players hydrated, in addition to carrying team and player bottles to the huddle at quarter and half time.
